Business Transition Alliance
Entrepreneurship is, in many ways, a dream come true for business owners across the world. However, starting and running your own business also comes with long hours and a lot of pressure from yourself, your team, and your customers. One of the most common feelings in your entrepreneurial journey is loneliness. You may have seen one of our own founding partners, Darryl Fisch, write or speak about this. We invite you to check it out if you haven’t already.
How can you cope with the loneliness and stress that may come with leadership?
1. Find community
Often, the best remedy for entrepreneurial loneliness is to find a community with other entrepreneurs. You can build and cultivate these relationships both in-person and virtually. Building a community with other business owners will help you feel less alone and feel understood. Not only will your fellow founders understand the feeling, but they will also keep you motivated to keep investing your time and energy into what you love.
2. It’s okay to say no
We need to remember that we are allowed to say no. When your calendar is filled with multiple commitments and gatherings, it can be difficult to find the time to focus on the priorities. Curate that time carefully. Make sure you are not only prioritizing your business but also yourself and the relationships that matter the most to you.
3. Prioritize your relationships
It is important to learn how to balance the entrepreneurial hustle and prioritize the right relationships. You won’t be able to be friends with everyone, but make sure to invest time in maintaining those relationships that have depth to you.
4. Prioritize your mental health
A lot of business owners are used to prioritizing the success of their business above everything else. But it is important to remember that if you don’t take care of yourself, you won’t have any energy to run your business. You must make sure that your well-being comes first. This includes your health, relationships, sleep, and diet.
5. Ask for help
It is okay to ask a mentor for help. Mentors can be a great resource for tactical entrepreneurship tips, but also for learning how to live and succeed as an entrepreneur. It is likely that they have felt everything that you are feeling, and learned how to overcome it.
